Installation Snapshots

Alongside formal installation photographs, the Peter Halley Archive contains hundreds of installation snapshots, offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the intricate and rarely scene process of setting up an exhibition or crafting artwork. From initial sketches and raw materials to the final placement of pieces, these images capture the hands-on labor, creative decisions, and technical expertise involved. Whether it's the careful positioning of sculptures, the precision of lighting adjustments, or the teamwork required to bring a vision to life, this series invites viewers to appreciate the unseen effort that culminates in a finished masterpiece.

Untitled, Commission for One Chase Manhattan Plaza Boardroom, 1990

Halley executes his first site-specific work—a three-painting installation—for the board room at the Chase Manhattan Bank in New York.

The work was commissioned by David Rockefeller and inspired by the site's modernist Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill 1960’s interior.
